Forensic Mapping

ACLU Massachusetts v. The City of Boston

This project maps the displacement and relocation of individuals following the abrupt closure of Long Island Shelter. It includes the forensic mapping of inter-jurisdictional arrests during “Operation Clean Sweep.” On August 6, 2019, The ACLU of Massachusetts filed a lawsuit against the City of Boston requesting the release of information detailing the coordination of the operation citing potential civil rights violations during the week-long “sweep.”

OCTOBER 8, 2014 - With 3 hours notice, residents of Long Island’s service infrastructures were evacuated. These are the city services that accommodated this displacement.

The ACLU of Massachusetts filed made several attempts to obtain documents pertaining to the coordinated efforts of Operation Clean Sweep. The Mayor’s Office delayed their response and limited the release of pertinent information that would help the ACLU determine what civil rights were violated in the operation. We mapped the available information to help fill in the gaps left in the lack of transparency.
